Each year, the Alumni Association or one of its recognized chapters or communities hosts or co-sponsors the following signature and traditional events:

UMBC Homecoming: Retriever Fever – Each year, the alumni association and office of alumni relations partners with many different campus offices to organize a fun filled weekend of activities for alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff. Homecoming usually occurs during the second or third week of October and popular events include a bonfire and outdoor movie, talent show, 5K race, community picnic, alumni awards, comedy show, and more. Career Month– Career Month offers an opportunity for current students to “get connected to the rest of the world” and explore professional options through presentation, workshops, and one-on-one networking with alumni and employers. There are many opportunities for alumni to connect with current students and share their experiences during this annual month-long celebration.

Legends of Excellence and Jazz Brunches Every five years, the Chapter of Black and Latino Alumni hosts a Legends of Excellence Brunch to recognize the impact made by UMBC faculty and staff in the lives of African-American and Latino students. The last two events were held in 2007 and 2012. During the years between, the chapter hosts a signature Jazz Brunch at various locations. Both the Legends and Jazz Brunch are scholarship fundraisers for the Second Generation and Esperanza Scholarships.
